21st Century Fox had owned a majority stake in the television firm, but sold that in 2010 to China Media Capital.
The deal is interpreted as a move away from China for the Murdoch empire.
According to the BBC, Murdoch met his former wife Wendy Deng in 1999 while she was working for Star China TV.
The company operates three Mandarin-language television stations.
Singer-actress Alicia Keys has reportedly parted ways from BlackBerry as its global creative director, as the smartphone maker continues struggling for survival in the market dominated by Apple and Samsung.
Keys is expected to leave from her position in the company on January 30.

Brad Pitt’s Hurricane Katrina charity Make It Right New Orleans has come under fire after the houses that it built started rotting from the inside out.
Make It Right home-owner Nola Verrett told RadarOnline that the houses wood turned gray and it was also black, adding that some parts started buckling and had mushrooms growing out of it.
