Prime Minister assures on autonomy of IITs

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Friday assured members of the All India IIT Faculty Federation (AIIITFF) that the autonomy of the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) would remain “intact”.

Federation members, who include faculty from all IITs, met the prime minister here Friday morning to seek his intervention in the new common entrance test format, which they believe will dilute the IITs.

Inter Supplementary results declared‎

The Andhra Pradesh – Intermediate Second Year Advanced Supplementary Examination Results 2012 will be declared at 11.00 am on June 16 (Saturday).

Inter results on June 16

According to the information of Board of Intermediate Education, intermediate supplementary exams results will be declared on June 16. While the results will be sent to convenor EAMCET 2012 to count 25% weightage marks. EAMCET results will be declared on June 18 or 19.

3.94 lakh candidates appeared in EAMCET. According to Board of Intermediate sources counseling is scheduled on 1st July and classes will begin in the 3rd week of July.

India, US announce eight educational partnerships

In a milestone in the educational partnership between India and the United States, eight institutional partnership projects, four each led by either country, were announced for the first Obama-Singh 21st Century Knowledge Initiative awards.

The goal of the initiative is to further strengthen, through faculty exchanges, joint research, and other collaboration, partnerships between American and Indian institutions of higher education in priority fields, including food security, climate change, sustainable energy, and public health, the US State Department announced Tuesday.

Student hacks friend’s email to deny him admission abroad

Jealous of his friend’s performance, an MSc. (economics) passout from the Calcutta University allegedly hacked his email account and sent mails with a view to deny him an opportunity to study abroad, but landed in police net.

Soumyatanu Mukherjee, 25, was arrested for hacking the email account of his friend Agnirup Sarkar, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Pallab Kanti Ghosh said here Tuesday.

“Mukherjee hacked the account and sent emails to foreign universities where Sarkar had applied for Ph.D that he did not wish to study there,” Ghosh said.

No intent to infringe on the autonomy of IIT: Sibal

Rejecting criticism and virtually ruling out going back on the new proposal, the Union Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal today said the government has no intent to impinge on the autonomy of the Indian Institutes of Technologies (IITs).

Defending the decision to have one nationwide common entrance test, which is being opposed by IIT Kanpur among
others, Sibal said this has been taken in accordance with the IIT Act passed by the Indian Parliament.

Sibal said this is a unanimous decisions of the IIT Council.

IIT Kanpur revolts, to hold separate entrance exam

In a clear revolt against the human resource development ministry’s move for a common entrance test, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Kanpur Friday decided to hold its own entrance test from 2013.

Upset with the ministry’s decision to merge IIT Joint Entrance Exam (IIT-JEE) with the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), the 210-member senate of IIT-Kanpur passed a resolution rejecting the new format.

UP Board results: Girls outperform boys in High School exams

Girls outperformed boys in the high school examinations of Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board, results of which were declared in Allahabad on Friday.

The success rate of girls was 88.95 per cent as compared to the 79.61 pass percentage of the boys in the state.

Announcing the results, Director of Secondary Education Vasudev Yadav told reporters that about 35.4 lakh candidates had appeared for the examinations out of which 29.8 lakh were declared successful.

The overall pass percentage stood at 83.75 per cent.

Tripura first state in NE to have IIIT

Tripura will be the first state in the northeast to have an Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty said today.

He said that during a recent visit to Delhi, Union HRD and Information Technology Minister Kapil Sibal had informed
him that the northeast’s first IIIT would be set up in the state.

The central government had decided to set up 20 more IIITs in different parts of the country of which five would be
set up in the first phase. Tripura figured in the first phase, Chakraborty told reporters here.

Police recruitment exam in Urdu too

Chairman state level Police Recruitment Board Andhra Pradesh Hyderabad has informed that the notification issued for police recruitment dated 26-12-2011 in which the written exam was to be written in English and Telugu only has been modified and now fresh notification has been issued.

As per the fresh notification state government has permitted the State Level Police Recruitment Board (SLPRB) to conduct the written examination in Urdu language in addition to Telugu and English languages. Government has issued GO in this regard.

UK varsity offers scholarship for Indian managers

The University of Salford, a British university, has offered scholarship for one Indian manager to study in its MBA programme.

The Global Leadership Scholarship is worth $24,981 and will allow its winner to pursue full-time resident MBA course in the university’s facility in MediaCity.

The candidates have to write an essay on “What does leadership mean to you and how can a Salford MBA help you contribute to global leadership?” The applicants should have an honours degree and three years of work experience. The deadline for application is June 22.

TET KEY released

Initial KEY for Andhra Pradesh teachers Eligibility Test APTET has been released and the same can be accessed from http://aptet.cgg.gov.in.

APTET exam was conducted on June 1. Candidates can file their objections on the website till June 12. Candidates have to file objections typing their hall ticket no. date of birth and booklet code.

Objections filed by post or through telephone will not be accepted. Final key will be released on June 15.
