Seven killed in road accident in MP

Anooppur, September 28: Seven persons were killed and 47 others injured today when the mini truck in which they were travelling overturned near Gundakona village, about 60 kms from here, police said. The victims, who hailed from Bhejri village, were on their way to Amarkantak to immerse the idol of Goddess Durga, they said.

2 shot dead in Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar, September 28: Two persons, including a Dalit, were shot dead in two separate incidents in the district today, police said here. Ram Prasad (35), a Dalit, was shot dead by some unidentified men at Barwal village early this morning while he was returning home from work.

In an another incident, a 60-year-old farmer was killed allegedly by his nephew over some property dispute, police said. Mangeram shot his uncle Satyaprakash dead at Rasulpur village and escaped.

Two held with fake currency

Etawah, September 28: Fake currency with a face value of Rs 9.60 lakhs was seized from Bakebar area here and two persons arrested in this connection, police said today. On a tip-off, a special Operation Group (SOG) team apprehended two motorcycle-borne persons near Maheba town yesterday and seized fake currency notes from them.

On the information provided by the duo, machinery, equipment and chemical used in printing of the fake notes were also recovered, the police said.

Accidental gunshot kills RSS activist in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal, September 28: A 50-year-old activist of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) died here Monday after a gun went off accidentally, police said.

Naresh Motwani was cleaning the gun when it went off accidentally around 11 a.m. at Saraswati Vidhya Mandir in Kotra-Sultanabad locality here.

‘RSS takes out Path Sanchalan (parade) every year on Dussehra during which its cadre carries arms. Motwani was cleaning the gun for the same. He was supposed to take part in the parade,’ Superintendent of Police Jaideep Prasad told IANS.

Two held with Rs.8.5 lakh in fake currency

Lucknow, September 28: Two people were arrested Monday in Itawah district of Uttar Pradesh with Rs.8.5 lakh in fake currency, police said.

Akhilesh Rajpoot and Kalka Prasad were nabbed by the Special Operations Group (SOG) from Bakeshwar locality of Itawah.

“We arrested them and recovered fake currency of denominations Rs.500, Rs.100 and Rs.50. Also, some half-printed notes were recovered,” SOG team inspector J.S. Parihar told IANS.

Four Maoists killed in Jharkhand

Ranchi, September 28: Four guerrillas were killed by members of another Maoist group in Gumla district of Jharkhand Monday, police said.
A gun battle between two groups of Maoist rebels took place at Salkaya jungle of Gumla, about 160 km from here. “In the clash, four Maoist rebels were killed,” a police officer told IANS.

People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) commander Jayram Gope alias Bhvaniji was among those killed. One rifle and live cartridges were seized from the killed rebels.

Maoists burn construction machinery in Jharkhand

Ranchi, September 28: Maoist rebels burnt a dumper and a road roller of a construction company in Simdega district of Jharkhand, police said Monday.
According to police, Maoist rebels set ablaze the dumper and roller of a construction company at Jaldega village of Simdega district, around 130 km from here, late Sunday night. The construction company was involved in road construction in Simdega district.

Nine held in Chandigarh for gambling

Chandigarh, September 28: Nine people including three women, all from prominent families, were arrested here on charges of gambling, police said Monday.

The nine men and women were carrying over Rs.900,000 when they were arrested late Sunday from a house in Sector 19, the police claimed.

“On a tip-off that some people from affluent families of the city are gathering in a house and are indulging in this activity, we laid a trap and nabbed them red-handed,” Superintendent of Police (Crime) Madhur Verma told IANS.

Three police officers arrested in Jammu

Srinagar, September 28: A special investigation team (SIT) has arrested three police officials including former Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manohar Singh for allegedly tampering with a murder weapon of a political leader’s son in Jammu, an official said Monday.
The arrests were made late Sunday night.

Amandeep Singh was shot dead at his home in Shashtri Nagar locality here Aug 29 by Jatinder Singh alias Raja, son of an influential businessman. Amandeep’s mother Deepinder Kaur was an eyewitness to the murder of her son.

One killed in mishap

Ratnagiri, September 27: One person was killed and two seriously injured as two motorcycles collided on Goa-Mumbai highway near here, police said.

The deceased has been identified asd 22-year-old Mali, they said the injured have been shifted to hospital.

One killed, 3 hurt in Kandhamal rehab centre blast

Phulbani, September 27: One person was killed and three others injured when a crude bomb being prepared at a rehabilitation centre in Kandhamal district exploded today.

The incident occurred this afternoon when the crude explosive went off when it was being prepared by a man at a tent located in the middle of the rehabilitation centre at Nandagiri, 54 km from here, Kandhamal SP Praveen Kumar said.

Eight of two families commit suicide in AP’s Guntur district

Guntur, September 27: Eight persons of two families allegedly committed suicide in two separate incidents in Guntur district today.

Police said that the two families took the extreme step as they were not able to remit debts.

In the first incident, in the temple town of Amaravati, A Venkateswara Rao, a petty trader from the neighbouring Vijawada city, and his wife committed suicide by hanging themselves in a hotel here. But before hanging themselves, they killed their two children by giving a fatal dose of poison. All the four have been died, police added.

Hardcore Maoist held in Bihar

Aurangabad, September 27: A hardcore Naxalite belonging to the proscribed outfit CPI (Maoist) was arrested from Deo police station ares of Bihar’s Aurangabad district.

ADG (Headquarters) Neelmani said the Maoist has been identified as Sushil Bhuian.

Bhuian has been wanted in half a dozen cases including blasting of a community building, encounter with police in Madanpur police station area of the district.

Allahabad, September 27:Three people were arrested from this Uttar Pradesh town with fake postal stamps worth Rs.700,000, police said Sunday.

“The fake stamps are mostly of Rs.1 and Rs.5 denominations. These men used to scan the original stamps and reproduce them with the help of a computer and a colour printer,” Deputy Inspector General of Police (Allahabad) Chandra Prakash told reporters.

The men were identified as Shafat Ahmed, Rashid Alam and Zubair. Police also recovered a computer, a scanner and a colour printer from them.

Six killed in Haryana road accident

Chandigarh, September 27: Six people, including a woman, were killed Sunday when the car in which they were travelling slammed into a truck in Panipat district of Haryana, police said.

The car, being rashly driven, rammed into the stationary truck from the rear in Samalkha town of Panipat, about 130 km from here.

“Six of the eight occupants of the car were killed. Other two were seriously injured. We have shifted the injured to a civil hospital,” Samalkha Station House Officer Kaptan Singh told IANS.

Two persons with alleged links to LeT arrested

Srinagar, September 27: Police today arrested two persons with alleged links to Lashkar-e-Toiba from Jammu and Kashmir”s Baramulla district and recovered a AK-47 rifle from them. The duo – Nazir Ahmad Rather and Hilal Ahmad Rather – were apprehended from Takia-Wagoora, 60 kms from here, last evening, the police said.

One AK 47 rifle with a magazine was recovered from the duo and a case was registered against them in Kreeri police station. The arrest comes close on the heels of three suspected LeT operatives being apprehended by the police in Pulwama on Friday.

Nine arrested in connection with Manipur Raj Bhavan car bomb case

Imphal, September 27: Nine persons have so far been arrested in connection with September 18 incident in which some unidentified persons kept a ‘car-bomb’ at Manipur Raj Bhavan complex, official sources said Sunday.

Sources said all the nine were being interrogated extensively.

On September 18 last, some unknown persons who came on the pretext of submitting a memorandum to the Governor Gurbachan Jagan left a car filled with 25 kgs of explosives and three hand grenades, sources said.

The explosives were later defused by the bomb experts of Manipur police.

5 teachers killed in road accident

Gorakhpur, September 27: Five teachers, including two women were killed and eight others injured in a road accident in this Uttar Pradesh district this morning.

All the deceased were heading towards Maharajganj when the jeep they were travelling in collided head-on-with a truck coming from the opposite direction near Bargadai bridge under Gulharia police circle, 25 kms away from district headquarters.

The deceased were teachers of Navodaya Vidyalaya, Maharajganj.

Khar women robbed of valuables while in car

Mumbai, September 27: The Khar police are on the look out of two unidentified men who attacked two young women and robbed them of valuables worth Rs30,000 at knifepoint.

On Friday evening, Khar resident Dimple Bhatija was in her car, parked on the Shirley Rajan Road in Khar along with her friend Kim Pandit. The duo was chatting when two armed men forcibly entered the car and threatened them.

Family held hostage in Gurgaon home

New Delhi, September 27: The family of a seniorexecutive was held hostage by a group of armed robbers for over two hours in their house in an up-market colony close to the Delhi airport on Friday night. The stand-off came to an end after over 60 commandos of the Haryana police and robbers exchanged fire for over an hour, in which two of the robbers were killed.

2 die as vehicle gets swept away, 4 missing

Aizawl, September 26: Two persons died while four others were missing when when a pickup van was swept away by flash flood near Mutthi village, about 20 kilometres from here, last night.

Police said ten people were inside the multi-utility vehicle when it got washed away in swirling waters.

While two bodies have been recovered, search was on for four missing persons.

Four other occupants swam ashore to safety.

Dalit girl dies, sister alleges jilted lover killed her

Khandwa, September 26: A dalit minor today died under mysterious cicumstances, amid allegations from her family members that she was burnt by her jilted lover and his friend under Kotwali police station here.

After the incident, the minor girl Deepmala’s elder sister Durgabai alleged that her sister’s lover Ashish Akode of Amravati in Maharashtra along with his friend Mohan barged into their home and after pouring kerosene, set Deepmala on fire.

At the time of the incident, Durgabai said that she was in the neighbourhood.
