Patna, June 11: Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed’s close confidant and Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Md Umer Madni – who was nabbed from Delhi last week – was on Thursday taken to Patna by a special team of Delhi Police for further interrogation.
According to reports, Delhi Police is trying to verify the vital information revealed by the Madni about his organisation’s network in Bihar and adjoining states during interrogation.
The Delhi Police is trying to identify several missing links based on the information provided by Madni and unearth hideouts of the militant organisation and its key operatives in Bihar, especially areas close to the border with Nepal.
Though much has not been revealed by the Delhi Police it is believed that the inputs provided by Madni are crucial in cracking Lashkar-e-Toiba’s network in the country and prevent any future plans to create unrest in the country.
He is said to be very close to JuD chief Hafiz Saeed, who masterminded the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai last year, was arrested by Delhi Police from South Delhi near the Qutab Minar.
Though no arms and ammunition were recovered from Mohammed Umer Madni, he was found to be in possession of a diary, a Nepali driving licence, an identity card, fake Nepalese currency of Rs 8,000 and 8,000 dollars. He belongs to Bihar and he is a graduate.
Madni, who has four brothers, came to Aligarh – with an in-between stopover at Patna from Nepal – and then landed in Delhi.
Madni, who has been in touch with Saeed since 2000, was involved in “talent scouting” for the Lashkar-e-Toiba in India and is also the LeT boss in Nepal.
He has also sent many youth to terror training camps in PoK besides using the porous Indo-Nepal border to send his people, officials said.
