New Delhi, June 11: Even as anti-gay protesters take potshots at Celina Jaitly, the actress says there is no reason for debate on the subject; feels homosexuality is not a sexual disorder but a way of life
A day after anti-gay protesters sent an open letter to the Delhi police commissioner demanding action against gay activists Ashok Row Kavi and Celina Jaitly, the actress has come out all guns blazing.
The former Miss India does not mince words when it comes to her support for gays. “Homosexuality has existed ever since the existence of homosapiens. It’s not a sexual disorder.

It’s the way many people around us feel and we must start looking at it from a human perspective,” the Bollywood beauty shot back at the Youth United for Vibrant Action (YUVA), a radical youth outfit that is gunning for her support of the gay community.
She added that her first boyfriend was also gay. “That is also one of the reasons for supporting gays. He was my best friend.
I lost him only because no one, including his family, could understand his feelings,” she said.
No debate
Reacting to the YUVA offer to join an open debate on gay rights, Jaitly said, “If I agree to participate in any debate it would imply I accept there is a problem with being a homosexual. I don’t think we need to discuss these things.”
Jaitly said homosexuals had played a major role in her life and helped her achieve success, explaining her unwavering support to the community.
“These people are not outcasts. I have had so many homosexuals around me. One of my makeup artists who helped me reach the Miss India contest was a homosexual. I have received so much love from these people,” she said.
Jaitly also refuted media reports that she would participate in the gay parade to be held in New Delhi on June 28.
YUVA’s national convener Vinay Kumar Singh, said, “My advice to her is to come out bravely and discuss the issue. By just negating things, she and other gay rights activists will not be able to prove any point.”
No to Gay Pride
In a letter to the Delhi police commissioner, the outfit has also threatened to move Delhi High Court claiming that permitting the gay pride parade will be in direct contravention to the law.
