Hyderabad, July 16: A delegation of prominent Muslim Ulama and Mashailheen ( the clergy) met Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and discussed the latest situation in the state particularly in the Telangana region and urged for the earliest solution of the stalemate.
The delegation of Markazi Mashiq and Ulama Forum led by its president Moulana Hazrat S S Asrar Hussain Razvi Al Madani met the Chief Minister and expressed its anguish over sharing of the Congressmen including Ministers, MPs and Legislators for sharing the platform with the RSS and BJP cadre in its campaign for separate Telangana.
It said that the Muslims have been supporting the Congress Party in view of its secular credentials and the present situation has created anguish among them.
The delegation pointed out that if the Centre carves out a separate Telangana state then it should earmark 15 percent of the Special package to be allocated for the new state for the development and progress of Muslim minorities as it lags behind in the socio-economic and educational fields.
It said that due to agitations and bandhs, the Muslim community is hard hit and their economic conditions are being weakened, as a majority of them consists of daily wage earners or engaged in the petty business.
The delegation also pointed out that in the 2009 Assembly Elections out of 119 Assembly seats in the Telangana region, no Muslim Congress candidate could win. In view of this 10 to 15 seats in Telangana should be earmarked for the Muslim candidates in the this region.
This apart the delegation insisted on opening Model schools in all the districts and towns of the region for the Muslim students where they could get education in Urdu and English languages.
The boards serving the Muslim communities should also be filled in soon and loans to Muslim traders or self-employed persons with margin money should be granted by allocating Rs 50 crores, the memorandum pointed out.
The delegation also suggested setting up of a Muslim University on the Wakf lands in Chevella in Rangareddy district.
The Chief Minister promised to look into the points raised by the Ulama and Mashiaq and take appropriate action accordingly. After meeting the Chief Minister, the delegation left for New Delhi to represent the matter to the All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi and other Central leaders.(INN)
