Enriching youth through leadership

Hyderabad, July 16: Asserting the importance of human rights and the role of youth in protecting them, speakers at a symposium called upon students to take active part in politics while creating awareness among other people. The political science and history department of St Ann’s College for Women organised a one-day symposium on Youth and Human Rights- Enriching Youth Through Leadership for Good Governance here on Friday. In his keynote address, Prof Haragopal, human rights activist said youth can be good partners in governance by turning novel ideas into reality. “For youth to contribute to enjoyment of human rights and establishment of world peace, we must provide necessary means for educating youth in both practical skills and moral values. It should promote social and economic progress and justice,” he added. Inviting students to politics, MP Madhu Yashki Goud called upon students to strive to set up various community organisations. “This is the right time for students to participate in current politics as they are the backbone to any economy. It is their responsibility to apply everything they learn practically and contribute to develop the country,” he said. Replying to a query, Madhu Yashki said a number of candidates with a criminal past are entering politics and winning elections. People must think before they cast their vote, he added. HoD of political science Prof Ravindra Shastry, Nobel Peace Prize winner Lalitha Ramdas and others were present.
