TDP wants govt to pay Rs 3 lakh ex gratia to kin

Hyderabad, April 23: Leader of the opposition N Chandrababu Naidu today demanded payment of Rs 3 lakh to the kin of those who died in the unseasonal rain and hailstorm in 11 districts yesterday.

In a letter to the chief minister, Naidu said eight persons died and crops were damaged at different places. The loss was estimated to be in crores of rupees, he said. “The situation is more distressing in cases where the produce was in kept in open yards and fields and was about to be moved to market for sale. In such cases, the damage was total and farmers lost everything.’’ “Insurance companies and state government authorities should conduct surveys and estimate the loss, and arrange for compensation, Naidu requested the chief minister. Naidu also demanded that the families of deceased persons be extended an ex gratia of Rs 3 lakhs as was done during floods treating this as a special case.

Naidu condemned the arrest of 2008- DSC qualified candidates. It was unfortunate that Telugu Yuvata, TNSF and DYFI activists, who were staging a dharna in a peaceful manner near the Secretariat, were arrested, he said and demanded that the government fill the 2008-DCS SGT posts without further delay.
