British diplomat visits TRS HQ, meets KCR

Hyderabad, April 23: British deputy high commissioner for South India, who is based in Chennai, visited Telangana Bhavan, the TRS headquartersl at Banjara Hills here today and met party chief K Chandrasekhar Rao and other leaders.

During his 45-minute interaction, Mike sought clarifications on the Telangana movement and its impact on all sections of society. He also heard their views on the welfare of the Muslim community and how a separate state of Telangana, if formed, would control extremism.

He also enquired as to why the central and state governments had not resolved the issue though the movement for statehood was decades old.

“I came here on personal interest and to enlighten myself on the movement,’’ he is believed to have told the TRS leaders. “I hope I may receive an invitation to establish a consulate in Hyderabad after formation of Telangana state,’’ he quipped.

The TRS president explained to Mike the genesis of the Telangana issue and handed over to him a copy of the submission his party made to the Srikrishna Committee.

He also handed over several CDs and printed material on the Telangana movement.

Rao was assertive that the movement reached a decisive stage and people of the Telangana region would achieve their goal. “The central government has started the process for creation of Telangana state,’’ he explained to the diplomat.

Senior leader Nayani Narsimha Reddy, Politburo member N Nirajan Reddy, former legislator G Arvind Kumar Reddy and some other leaders were present.
