SCS issue will be sorted out soon: Jaitely

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday said the issue of special status for Andhra Pradesh would be soon sorted as the Centre is in talks with the state government.

The Centre is fully aware of the issue of the SCS and we are committed to compensate for the loss which AP had witnessed during bifurcation, the Union minister told in the Lok Sabha.

The issue was raised by YSR Congress member Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy during the Zero Hour.

“At the time of reorganisation of the state, then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had assured of giving special status to Andhra Pradesh, which was supported by BJP, too. Later BJP also said that the special status will be given to the state when it will come to power. But till date, this promise has not been fulfilled,” Nellore MP Reddy said.

Earlier, the YSR Congress members rushed to the Well of the House and stage protest demanding SCS to Andhra Pradesh.

Jagan to meet Prez

In a related development, YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy is slated to meet President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday evening. Party sources said that Mr Jagan would appraise the President about the issue of granting special status to Andhra Pradesh. Mr Jagan would explain to the President the benefits the state would get if accorded the SCS as promised during the bifurcation of AP in 2014. (INN)
