New Delhi, July 01: A train accident was averted here at noon when stationary Bhubaneswar-Delhi Rajdhani express train suddenly left a platform of New Delhi railway station towards Ghaziabad side, creating a wave of panic among the railway staff and onlookers.
Some alert staff tried to board the running train to stop it anyhow while others threw boulders on the tracks to halt the train which had come on the platform from Bhubaneswar and was about to be taken to the yards.
The rolling train could be stopped only when a big iron girder was thrown on the tracks.
Eyewitnesses said some of the train staff was heard shouting that hand brakes were not working, stop it any how before it hits any other incoming train or passers by on any level crossing.
A spokesperson of Northern Railways said it was only a minor incident and the train was empty as it was about to be taken to the yards.
The spokesperson said the incident might have occurred due to release of brakes of the train.
“The train had not even crossed the platform in back gear. It stopped at security point,” the official claimed.
