Nellore: A truck ran over several people in Rayalseema region Friday afternoon, leaving 20 of them dead and more than 15 injured. The incident happened in Yerpedu of Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh as reported by Deccan Chronicle.
The mishap took place when the driver lost control of the vehicle. He accidently ran over several persons, who came to protest against the illegal sand transportation in their region.
The incident happened in front of the police station. The superintendent of Police, Jayalaxmi, informed that victims were crushed under the massive truck. Some of them were even burnt due to a short circuit occurred in the vehicle.
Moreover, one of the journalists from Vernacular daily also had his leg crushed, his condition is believed to be critical. The Chief inspector and sub-inspector of the police also suffered many injuries. However, they all were taken to the Ruiya Hospital at Tirupati.
