Hyderabad, July 1: Dr K. Sudhir Reddy, senior orthopedician and joint replacement surgeon of the Deccan Hospitals, performed a successful knee replacement surgery on 92 year old patient.
Dr K. Sudhir Reddy along with Mr Sriramulu Reddy (patient) said during a press conference that the patient had to walk with great difficulty and now after the surgery the patient is fast recovering.
Dr K. Sudhir Reddy said that most of the patients avoid surgery and rely on pain killers which are harmful for kidneys. However surgery is not needed for every case. He said.
He said there is a general misconception that elderly patients after 75 years are too old to undergo major surgery. “We have operated many patients above 85 with good results. In all cases, surgery is undertaken only after thorough evaluation.”
