Hyderabad: Former minister and senior Congress leader T. Jeevan Reddy on Tuesday alleged that the State government had issued orders to divert the funds of village panchayats for the maintenance of Mission Bhagiratha scheme in the State. He also alleged that it was not good on the part of the State government, which had promised to provide safe drinking water to each and every household of the State under the scheme, to divert the funds of the villages.
Addressing mediapersons along with other party leaders, Jeevan Reddy said all the District Collectors had issued orders to divert the Panchayat funds even before the new sarpanches took charge of their respective villages. He alleged that notices were being served on the Panchayats even before the completion of the Mission Bhageeratha works. He said the orders were in contradiction of the statements made by the ruling party leaders during the ongoing Panchayat elections.
He said that executive engineer of the Mission Bhagiratha scheme from Jagtiyal issued notices to the authorities concerned to pay Rs.2.5 crore for supplying the water under the scheme for six months period taking the total annual charges to Rs.5 crore. He showed the notices to the media persons on the occasion. He demanded an explanation on the issue from the state government.
