Hyderabad hotels begin sale of haleem

Hyderabad, July 22: Haleem, one of Hyderabad’s favourite foods, has become available in many restaurants in the city 10 days prior to the start of the holy month of Ramzan.

Haleem vendors fear that the commencement of the Sravana month around the same time as Ramzan may affect sales, and they want to make up for the losses by selling haleem in advance.

The month of Ramzan is likely to start from August 1, depending on the sighting of the moon. That is the day from which restaurants are supposed to start making haleem.

The Sravana month starts in the last week of July and ends on August 26. Hindus who constitute the major consumers of haleem generally stay off non-vegetarian food during the month.

Mr Syed Ahmed, a restaurant owner, said, “Last year also, there was an overlap of Ramzan and the Sravana month due to which sales went down. Keeping last year in mind we started selling haleem 10 days in advance.”
