The state government has directed the district Collectors to identify the land for construction of nursing schools at the locations identified by the Union Government in the state under strengthening and upgradation of nursing schools and colleges scheme sponsored by the Health Ministry. Responding on a letter addressed by Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad to the Chief Minister N.Kiran Kumar Reddy and Members of Parliament regarding the strengthening and upgradation of Nursing Schools and Colleges, the state govlernment has immediately directed the Commissioner of Family welfare to take immediate action, according to an official release here today.
It may be stated here that the Union Government has been implementing a Centrally-sponsored scheme of strengthening and upgradation of Nursing Schools and Colleges under which Central Financial assistance would be provided during the XI Five Year Plan to establish 7 ANMs in the State and to make available the required land. Under the scheme, the State is entitled for 7 ANMs Schools and 7 GNM colleges in AP as part of the 132 ANMs and 137 GNMs to be established in the 269 identified districts in India with poor health indicators under the Centrally sponsored scheme of strengthening and upgradation of Nursing schools.
The cost of the schools and the staff to be shared between Central Government and State Government at 85 per cent and 15 per cenmt respectively. Rs.5 crores for ANM schools and Rs.10 crores for GNM schools respectively. UNI
