Income Tax dept launches two ASK centres in city

Chief Commissioner of Income Tax Rajeswara Rao today inaugurated two Ayakar Seva Kendras (ASKs) for the benefit of the tax-payers here.

ASK is a single window contact centre for centralised receipt and registration of certain specified categories of documents, including income tax returns. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rao said this was an effort to change the I-T department’s image from an ‘enforcement agency’ to a service oriented organisation.

Taxpayers’ requests and grievances would be registered at ASK, and acknowledged through a unique identifier for tracking the resolution progress, he said.

There was a shortage of staff in the I-T department in the city , resulting in overburden on existing employees, and the staff at ASK is outsourced for better services, he added. UNI
