A Cabinet Sub-Committee chaired by Panchayat Raj Minister Jupally Krishna Rao today discussed on bringing out new Panchayat Raj law with needed changes for allround development of villages. Ministers KT Rama Rao, E Rajender, P Srinivas Reddy, Indrakaran Reddy and T Nageshwara Rao attended the meeting that dealt at length on various issues.
The meeting favoured for avoiding legal issues and to provide executive powers, funds, and responsibilities to Sarpanches for speeding up development works with transparency. It also proposed to make amendments in the existing law to conduct village meetings once in a month or two against the regular practices of six months, appoint a co-option member with knowledge in a specific field and plan to set up a committee at district level to take up construction of housing and other buildings in villages.
