Court grants bail to kidney kingpin

New Delhi, March 05: A Delhi court today granted bail to kidney racket kingpin Amit Kumar in three cases relating to obtaining passports on alleged fake identity but he would not be walking free due to pendency of several other cases across the country.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja allowed the plea of Kumar who sought bail on the ground that he was not arrested during the investigation in the cases registered by CBI in 2008.

The court rejected the contention of CBI, which opposed his plea contending that the charges against him were grave.

Kumar, whose real name is Sanjay Raut, was arrested in Nepal in February, 2008, after the scam running into crores of rupees was unearthed about illegal transplantation of kidney by him and others. He is also accused of securing passports from regional passport office in the capital on fake identity in 1997.
