Hyderabad, September 26: Chief Minister K Rosaiah on Sunday directed officials to evacuate people from low-lying areas to safer places immediately as the Osman Sagar and Himayath Sagar Lakes had reached their brim and water had to be released following heavy rains in the recent past.
Talking to media persons after emerging out of a meeting convened to review battered roads and sanitation in the city, in the wake of recent heavy rains, Health and Family Welfare Minister Danam Nagender stated that the government had released Rs 32 crore to take up repair works of the badly damaged roads in the city.
Mr Nagender said that the Chief Minister has responded favourably to a proposal by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation for the release of an additional Rs 50 crore to take up road repairs and other pending works in the city.
The Minister revealed that Mr Rosaiah also directed Municipal officials in various districts to work in cooperation with district officials to contain any possible spread of water-borne diseases from spreading due to incessant rains.
Mr Nagender also revealed that the Chief Minister put rescue and relief teams on alert to meet any eventuality.
Refuting rumours appearing in a section of media that Chief Minister’s needs complete bed rest, he said the Chief Minister’s health is good and he is doing fine.
The Health Minister called upon people not to believe rumours over the Chief Minister’s health.
He said the Chief Minister will inaugurate Hi-Tech City Flyover on October 2, which connects Kukatpally-Gachchibowli. Mr Nagender said that the work on the Flyover is expected to be complete in time for the inauguration.
