Bill to set up CSIR academy likely in budget session

New Delhi, February 21: A bill to set up an academy that will enable CSIR award post-graduate and doctoral degrees is expected to be tabled in the budget session of Parliament beginning tomorrow.

The bill for Academy of Scientific and Industrial Research (ASIR) is expected to come up before the Union Cabinet very soon and is likely to be discussed in the budget session of Parliament, official sources said.

Currently, scientists pursuing research in any of the 38 laboratories of CSIR (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research) across the country have to register themselves at different universities.

Once the ASIR is set up, it would enable registration of such researchers. In addition, the academy will also award post-graduate degrees.

“The emphasis of ASIR will be on education by experience than education by reading. It will also help attract the best talents,” a CSIR official said.
