Class V student unable to write his name

Bhuwaneshwar, February 21: When 10-year-old Bikash Moharana deposed before a local court here as witness in connection with the murder of his father, little did he know that his educational backwardness would be exposed in public.

Though he was a class V student of Khalibagicha government UP School in this district headquarter town in Orissa, Bikash could not write his name when asked to do so by the court on Wednesday last and had to instead put his LTI (left thumb impression).

Considering Bikas as a classic case, the judge took cognisance of the situation seriously and summoned the school authorities seeking to know how the boy could be promoted to class-V though he failed to write his name.

Bikash had appeared as prosecution witness before the additional sessions judge, Boudh, B Kar as an eyewitness to the murder of his father last year.

After examination in the court, he was asked to sign on the deposition. However to the utter surprise of all present in the court room, Bikash said that he does not know how to write his name.

After coming to know that the witness is a regular student of the government school, the court asked the headmistress of the school to appear before it and ascertain the facts.
