Islamabad, March 23: Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari did not address a joint session of parliament but addressed “his masters on whose orders he continues to remain in power”, cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has said.
Imran, who heads the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, said at a time when the country’s honour was put to shame by the release of CIA security contractor Raymond Davis and drone attacks in the northwest, Zardari was advocating a continuing “slave-master relationship with the US”, the Daily Times reported.
“In his speech, the president stressed the need for a sovereign parliament and the supremacy of the constitution, conveniently forgetting or deliberately ignoring the resolution of the joint session that called for an end to all drone attacks,” Imran said.
He said even though Pakistanis were desperate for a change in the policy on the war on terrorism that has destroyed the country’s economy, the president announced that the war would last for an “indefinite period”, which would lead to further destruction.
He also said that though Zardari reiterated that the murderers of his wife and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto would be arrested soon, the reality was that even after three years, the government was not even close to solving the assassination case.
