Hyderabad, June 09: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has cautioned the newly-elected Congress legislators against developing complacency in taking the government schemes to the people.
They would face an acid test during the elections to municipalities next year and to Panchayat Raj bodies subsequently. This is when their performance would matter the most in ensuring the victory of Congress candidates to the maximum number of seats. Their performance would be reviewed from time to time with the help of different agencies and they would be given ratings accordingly.
Do’s and don’ts
Addressing a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party in the Assembly lobbies on Monday, Dr. Reddy prescribed several do’s and don’ts for the members. APCC president D. Srinivas was also present at the meeting which was attended by 140 MLAs and 42 MLCs.
The Chief Minister is also said to have cautioned MLAs against being ‘overconfident’ after their victory in the recent elections and asked them not to be “overenthusiastic” in wielding authority. “People would teach a fitting lesson to such legislators who take credit for their victory,” he is learnt to have said.
Dr. Reddy wanted the MLAs and other leaders from areas where the party did not perform on expected lines to introspect as to why people did not vote for it. Briefing reporters later, State Chief Whip Mallu Bhattivikramarka and others said the Chief Minister gave indications that the budget session of the Assembly was likely to start around July 20.
It would be preceded by a two-day training programme for MLAs aimed at improving their efficiency.
They said the APCC president would undertake district tours from June 13 for conducting constituency-wise review of the party’s performance. The reviews were intended to identify constituencies where the leaders and cadre had worked against the candidates.
