Vijayashanti shows up at media meet

Hyderabad, June 09: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) Member of Parliament Vijayashanti showed up before the media here on Monday evening as if denying reports that she was missing after getting elected to Parliament from Medak.

Reacting to complaints against her in police stations that she had been absconding since the declaration of election results, she said, the charges were filed with the aim of targeting her and TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao. She counselled media not to be a party to cheap tactics played against Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao and herself.

Ms. Vijayashanti clarified that she had indeed visited her constituency on a thanksgiving trip after the results and later attended the Parliament session for oath-taking and to fulfil several other official commitments, including documentation. She returned to the city on Saturday.

Asked as to how many days she attended to business in Parliament, she replied “three to four days.” She said she was busy completing documentation for most of the time during the five-day Parliament session.

She also participated in strategies being drawn to intensify the separate Telangana movement.

Ms. Vijayashanti blamed certain political forces for targeting her and Mr. Rao out of fear that they might give a fresh impetus to the movement. Some leaders within the TRS also criticised them and needlessly held Mr. Rao responsible for the party’s defeat.
Complaint lodged

Staff Reporter from Sangareddy adds: Two persons belonging to Medak lodged a complaint with the police stating that the newly-elected Lok Sabha member Ms. Vijayashanti was not traceable. They urged the police to trace her and present her before the people of Medak.

The complaint was lodged by TRS activists of Medak G. Jeevan Rao and G. Srikanth, who are reported to be supporters of rebel party leader M. Padmadevender Reddy, who contested as an Independent candidate from Medak.
Big promises

“Ms. Vijayashanti lured the voters with big promises and won the elections. She promised to make Medak the district headquarters and solve water problem. But nothing has moved in that direction,” they said in their complaint.

Confirming that he had received the complaint, Medak Inspector Vijaya Kumar said, he had made an entry in the general diary and would inform higher officials about it.
