Bangalore, January 12: Youth should prefer Public sector organisations to serve the country than look at lucrative private jobs as they were satisfying and secured, Mr Rakesh Mohan, former RBI Deputy Governor and a policymaker, said today.
Speaking to UNI he said he had spent most contented 15 years in the public sector and this was where he developed professionalism.
It offers a challenging and fulfilling career and the country’s young professionals must join such services rather than solely focusing on lucrative jobs.
”But the youth with professional degrees under the belt seem not much bothered about the importance for working in public sector and government organisations which is good for the country. My stint in public sector had been a fulfilling life,” he said.
Mr Mohan, who left RBI a year before his retirement last year, had been instrumental in giving shape to country’s monetary policy, financial markets and research.
After a six month stint at Satanford University, he is now back in India and is actively participating in the setting up of Indian Institute of Human Settlements (IIHS), a private university planned by prominent people from different areas.
The institute would offer world class education in urban settlement. The mother campus would come up in the city and the institute would have four more campuses in different parts of the country.
He said the youth should adhere to social responsibility after they get educated well in India. This they could do by entering public sector which was now easier. The sixth pay commission has resulted in good salaries in public sectors and the salaries had been attractive enough, he said.
