Younis comes back in contention for international return

Melbourne, December 17: Despite being overlooked for the tour Down Under, veteran batsman Younis Khan could well board the flight for Pakistan’s tour of Australia after he plays in the final of the domestic competition at home next week.

Pakistan team manager Abdul Raqeeb said there were chances that Younis might be recalled into the national side and the team management was in touch with the national selectors to see if the prolific Younis could join the team Down Under.

”Well I don’t know. The thing is we have tried to contact our selectors,” Raqeeb told reporters in Hobart today after the side’s arrival in Australia.

”The chairman of the selection committee has been in contact with him and he is playing in the finals of the domestic cricket on the 21st and he’ll be playing that five-day game.

”And after that we’ll see what happens,” Raqeeb was quoted as saying by AAP.

The 32-year-old right-hander appeared at a coaching course in Lahore yesterday after the selectors opted for a team without the experience of Younis.

While there have been reports that Younis was uncontactable, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) COO said in Islamabad yesterday that he has met with the former skipper and has told him that there was still a lot of cricket left in him.

Younis opted out of Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand citing poor batting form and then did not appear for his state team in domestic competition, raising doubts about his future in international cricket.
