Namakkal :A 27-year old woman Deputy Superintendent of Police allegedly committed suicide in her office-cum-residence complex in Tiruchengode town in the district today over some ‘family dispute’, police said.
Tiruchengode DSP Vishnu Priya was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a room in her first floor residence in the complex this evening.
DIG (Salem Range) Vidya D Kulkarni and District Superintendent of Police S R Senthilkumar, who are at the spot, said the DSP, who was unmarried, left for her residence around 3 pm for lunch after attending to her duties.
As she did not return to the office as usual, a constable went upstairs to look for her and found the house locked from inside with no response to repeated knocks.
When he peeped inside a window of a room, he found the DSP hanging from the ceiling fan, following which he alerted other colleagues who retrieved the body after breaking open the door, they said.
The DSP, who hailed from Cuddalore District of Tamil Nadu, had joined the force only in 2013 and Tiruchengode was her first posting.
Some dispute in the family was suspected to be the reason for her extreme step, police said adding her parents had been informed and investigations were on.
