New Delhi, April 30: Senior BJP leader and Public Accounts Committee member Yashwant Sinha on Friday said the PAC report on the 2G scam should be submitted to the Lok Sabha Speaker. For, it was the product of several months of the committee’s proceedings and was not authored by Chairman Murli Manohar Joshi.
At a news conference here, Mr. Sinha took exception to the 11 members of the Congress and other parties disrupting Thursday’s PAC meeting. By their “unbecoming” behaviour, the ruling party members had politicised a parliamentary committee. He said the 10 members who supported the report represented a broad spectrum of the Opposition including the National Democratic Alliance.
“I challenge Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Communications Minister Kapil Sibal and the ruling combine to prove any portion of the report is not based on facts. We are very hurt by the manner in which the Congress and members of other parties have levelled charges that the report is biased.” The facts before the committee clearly established that nine times out of ten the then Telecom Minister, A. Raja, took decisions with the Prime Minister’s knowledge.
“I am charging the Prime Minister with direct complicity in this matter. I am charging the Finance Minister with direct complicity. They have not only not done their constitutional duty but willy-nilly they have become a party to this scam,” Mr. Sinha charged.
It was strange that the most honest Prime Minister in the history of India had “presided over the biggest empire of corruption,” he said.
Asked about the fate of the PAC report, Mr. Sinha said: “It is entirely up to the PAC chairperson and the Lok Sabha Speaker to take a final call on the issue.”
