Yadavs meet governor, oath taking ceremony on March 12

Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son, Akhilesh, met with Uttar Pradesh’s Governor BL Joshi on Wednesday evening and staked their claim to form government. Their party had a sweeping majority-224 of the state’s 403 seats- making their task fairly easy.

Sources say the oath taking ceremony will take place on March 12 and although Akhilesh has made it amply clear that ‘Netaji’ will be the Chief Minister, there is a surging demand for the 39-year-old to be at the helm of affairs. The party has maintained that the final decision will only be taken after Holi.

It was his energy and raw appeal among the youth of the state that helped script the party’s success story. Seen riding his party symbol, the cycle, wearing a red cap, he was very much the face of the campaign. Many believe that those who voted for the Samajwadi Party voted for him; and that there will be anger and disappointment if he does not lead the state.
