Wrong map of India shown by National Geographic

New Delhi, January 06: The government has issued a strict word of warning to the National Geographic Channel for showing the “wrong” map of India.

According to the government’s information the map shown did not feature Jammu and Kashmir as an integral part of India during the course of its programme on Rhinos in South Asia.

As per I&B the map shown was not in conformity with the outline map of India as published by the Survey of India and the telecast/re-telecast of the programme appeared to distort the map of India.

The word of warning has already been issued to the channel by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry as per the provisions of its downlinking guidelines and the terms and conditions of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995, asking it to austerely adhere to the programme code prescribed under the Act.

But as far as the channels wording is concerned, it is somewhat different from the claim made by the government. According to the channel it had “inadvertently shown the map of South Asia, which included Indian territorial boundary, it was not in conformity with themap of India published by the Survey of India.”
