As part of the ambitious Strategic Road Development (SRD) plan of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to ease ever-increasing vehicular traffic problem in the fast growing metropolis, especially in the IT corridor, works relating to the suspension bridge across Durgam Cheruvu, beautification of the area and a flyover nearby formally commenced today.
IT and MA&UD Minister K. T. Rama Rao , laid foundation stone for the over Rs 184-crore 1.04 long suspension bridge across Durgam Cheruvu. Soon after laying the foundation stone, KTR outlined the plans of the GHMC to take up various projects to ease the traffic congestion in the area. KTR pointed out that with the fast pace of developments taking place in the Hitech City, especially in the IT Corridor, it was imperative to have 12 lane roads instead of the present eight-lane roads. Under the SRD plan, there were various proposals to take up more road development works, including flyovers in a phased manner.
The minister, who laid a foundation for construction of a flyover on Road No.45 in Jubilee Hills, wanted Larsen & Toubro company, which was constructing the suspension bridge across Durgam Cheruvu to complete the work within 18 months. He said in the first phase of the SRD plan, the area surrounding the Durgam Cheruvu would also be beautified at an estimated cost of Rs 3.5 crores. A cycling track, yoga centre, skating ring and so on would also be built in the area.
Pointing out that the tremendous increase in vehicular traffic due to a number of IT companies coming in the Hitech City and Gachibowli area, KTR said citizens were facing traffic hurdles and delays on roads leading to these areas, especially on Road no.36 and Road No. 45 of Jubilee Hills. Once suspension bridge and flyovers are completed, it would help enhance connectivity between Banjara Hills to Madhapur Hitech area, he explained and felt that once the Suspension Bridge is completed it would be an iconic structure enhancing the beauty of the State capital.
