New Delhi, April 01: Government Chief Whip Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has called upon the Congress party cadre in the district to strive with a missionary zeal to strengthen the party to realise the dream of former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy for making AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi Prime Minister.
Speaking at a felicitation function held in honour of AICC secretary and MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy at the district Congress Committee office here on Thursday, he lamented that certain elements were trying to hoist the flags of other parties at the flag posts of the Congress party adjoining the statues of Rajasekhar Reddy in some places.
In an indirect reference to the ‘YSR Congress Party’, he said, “The cadres of a political party resorted to such undesirable acts wherein they repainted the Congress party’s flag posts with the colours of their party’s flag.
“It is not only unethical but amounts to intrusion into the affairs of other parties,” he alleged and added that the onus of protecting the Congress party’s flag posts was on each and every party cadre.
Hailing the re-nomination of Mr Sudhakar Reddy as AICC secretary for the fifth consecutive term, he said the relentless services of Mr Reddy in various capacities including NSUI and Youth Congress State president in the past to the party enabled him secure the coveted post.
Minister for Horticulture R Venkat Reddy, Mahabubabad MP P Balram Naik, and district Congress Committee president V Venkateshwara Rao spoke.
The Congress leaders felicitated Mr Sudhakar Reddy and recalled his services to the party. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Reddy thanked the AICC president Sonia Gandhi for reposing faith in him and pledged to work with renewed vigour to strengthen the party.
Earlier, the activists of the Youth Congress and NSUI offered a rousing welcome to Mr Reddy on his arrival in the town.
