New Delhi, December 18: The present women reservation quota bill in the parliament can be proved fatal in its present form. Before jumping to any conclusion let’s look at the present reservation: SC/ST: 22.5%, OBC: 27.5%, Unreserved: 50%
But if we reserve 33% seats to women the reservation would be like: Women: 33%, SC/ST: 14.85%,OBC: 18.15%Unreserved: 34%.
Historically the unreserved seats are taken by the people of General category, So earlier if they were getting 50% seats in parliament, now they can legally secure 33%+34%=67% seats as women quota will most likely will be filled by the women of General category. This can be provedfatal as 2/3 majority is all that is required to pass any bill. This new quota may give them the chance to pass any bill without the consent of SC/ST or OBC class.
To avoid this, the proposed amendment by Samajvadi party of quota within quota has to be implemented.
