Women’s bill meant for elite, says Ali

New Delhi, March 09: Unattached member Ejaj Ali, who was suspended from the Rajya Sabha today due to unruly behaviour on the Women’s Reservation Bill, alleged that the measure is meant for “elite women”.

“Our commitment is for poor and downtrodden women in the society. But the proposed bill is for elite class ladies,” Ali told reporters outside Parliament.

He said the stand of the opponents of the bill will remain unchanged unless the government modifies it. “We will do the same what we did yesterday.”

Ali and several other members caused pandemonium in the House yesterday when the bill was moved.

When it was told that their numbers are not sufficient to prevent the government from passing the bill, Ali said, “We are sufficient to block it.
