Women outfits demand Renukacharya’s resignation

Bangalore, December 31: City-based women’s organisations today staged a protest here demanding resignation of excise minister M P Renukarcharya, who is facing criminal charges in a sexual harassment case, from the Yeddyurappa cabinet.

About 70 women belonging to ten women organisations led by Jayalakshmi, a former nurse who filed the complaint against the minister, shouted slogans and demanded that chief minister B S Yeddyurappa drop Renukacharya.

Addressing the media in front of Rani Kittur Chenamma’s statue near Townhall, Jayalakshmi alleged that she was being “mentally and sexually harassed” by Renukarcharya for the past two years, almost leading her to the brink of suicide.

She described Renukacharya as a “liar and irresponsible MLA” and accused him of staying in Hyderabad in the name of conducting agricultural research when the floods ravaged the state.
