Kurnool, April 19: In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old woman pushed her four children into an agricultural well before jumping in herself at Gudikatta, Yemmiganur mandal in the district on Tuesday.
According to Sub-Inspector Chandrababu, Uppera Erramma, wife of Babu, pushed her children Kavita (6), Jayalakshmi (3), Thimmappa (2) and Sravani (1) into the well and then jumped in herself after being vexed due to the frequent squabbling between her husband and his brothers.
The Sub-Inspector said that the people who noticed the tragedy tried to save the woman and her children but their efforts went in vain. “The five victims had died before they could be retrieved from the well,” Mr Chandrababu said.
“Nonetheless, the villagers rushed them to hospital in hopes of saving them, but they were declared brought dead by the doctors,” he continued.
Disputes between her husband Babu and his brothers was the reason behind the woman’s state of mind, the Sub-Inspector said. He has further revealed that the bodies have been shifted to a government hospital for autopsies.
A case has been registered and further investigations are on.
