Why Naidu, Chiranjeevi couldn’t attend YSR’s burial

Pulivendula (Andhra Pradesh), September 04: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu and actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi could not attend the last rites of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Friday as they were caught in a massive traffic jam on the road leading to the late chief minister’s homestead.

State Home Minister P. Sabita Indra Reddy and several other prominent personalities could not reach Idupulapaya, where YSR was laid to rest in an estate that was dear to him. Thousands of mourners were present when his coffin was lowered in the grave.

Sabita Indra Reddy, Naidu and Chiranjeevi were among many key personalities who landed at Tirupati airport in a chartered flight from Hyderabad and left for this town by road. While Chiranjeevi sat in a bus along with others, the home minister and Naidu left in their convoys.

As hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the road leading to YSR’s family estate, the vehicles of the leaders could not proceed further.

By the time film actor and former MP Mohan Babu and his son Vishnu reached Idupulapaya, the last rites were completed.

YSR, who first became chief minister in May 2004, was flying from Hyderabad to Chittoor district when his helicopter crashed in a dense forest and exploded in Kurnool district. His charred body was found Thursday, over 24 hours after the helicopter went missing.
