We’re too insignificant to compete with Devsaab: Jr. Bachchan

Mumbai, April 14: We’re too insignificant to compete with Devsaab: Jr. Bachchan New Delhi: Seeking to play down the controversy over the title track of ‘Dum Maro Dum’, which has led veteran actor filmmaker Dev Anand to charge the filmmakers with tampering with the classic song from ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’, actor Abhishek Bachchan has said it was just a salutation to the classic song and there was no attempt to outdo it.

“I totally agree that classics should not be touched. The title song of ‘Dum Maro Dum’, ‘Mit Jaaye Gum’ is a totally different one from the original (from ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’).

In fact, the only thing we have taken from the original are the lyrics, “Abhishek said at a news conference here last evening to promote his new film ‘Dum maro Dum’.

On choosing the title ‘Dum maro Dum’ for the film, Abhishek, who was accompanied by the director of the film Rohan Sippy, his father and veteran filmmaker Ramesh Sippy and South Indian Actor Rana Daggubati, said, “it is just that the song ‘Dum Maro Dum’ Is so much embedded in our psyche and we thought it was the most appropriate title for the film which deals with the drug mafia.”

Stressing that they had the utmost respect for veteran actor Filmmaker Dev Anand and yesteryear’s actress Zeenat Aman, Abhishek said, “we have the utmost respect for Devsaab and Zeenat. We are not here to take on our stars. Infact, we feel that we are too insignificant to even try and compete with or emulate Devsaab.”
