Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy today alleged that apathy and conspiracy of previous Congress and TDP governments had caused the dreaded fluoride problem in Nalgonda district.
Participating in a program in Nalgonda district on Sunday, Jagadish Reddy attributed the chronic fluoride problem to apathy and criminal negligence of united Andhra leaders. The minister accused the previous rulers of making deliberate attempts to deprive Telangana region of water projects and collapse of minor irrigation tanks. However, the TRS Government has come up with Mission Bhagiratha to overcome the fluoride problem for welfare of the poor.
Stating that the TRS Government was committed to welfare of the poor in the State and taking all steps for providing basic amenities like drinking water, roads and power besides refilling ponds, lakes and water bodies to push minor irrigation in villages, the minister said the flagship programs like Mission Bhagiratha and Mission Kakatiya were yielding positive results. He said Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has taken the initiative for drinking water and lakes restoration projects to provide safe and potable waters to the people and distribute waters to crops in villages.
Giving safe drinking waters to every household in the villages is the brainchild of the Chief Minister, he said lakes and water bodies in Telangana are filled to the capacity to give a big push to minor irrigation in the villages, the minister claimed. For poverty alleviation, the Chief Minister has planned to give full encouragement to caste and community-based professions like fisheries and sheep rearing giving huge subsidies, Reddy said. Another important welfare measure is that the supply of fine rice to hostels for the students, he added. (NSS)
