Mumbai, February 25: Delhi-6 was surprisingly a big disappointment from Rakeysh Mehra after the brilliant Rang De Basanti . Somehow Mehra’s handling of social issues through the monkey-man metaphor didn’t gel well with the audiences.
Moreover audiences were expecting the world from Mehra post RDB. Clearly they came out of the hall disappointed. No doubt, the director attempted something different but couldn’t connect with the audiences seamlessly.
Even content-wise Delhi-6 is the weakest link from the UTV banner that came up with interesting list of titles like Jodhaa Akbar, A Wednesday, Aamir, Mumbai Meri Jaan, Welcome to Sajjanpur, Fashion, Oye Lucky Lucky Oye and Dev.D . Though the film opened well thanks to the hype surrounding, the collections dropped with poor reviews and negative word of mouth. Even the Monday holiday (Shiv Ratri) at several centers didn’t help boost the business much. With the high price at which the film is sold, the exhibitors might end up losing money.
