We will bring effective lokayukta if voted to power: TDP

Hyderabad, January 07: The opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Andhra Pradesh today said it would bring in an effective Lokayukta if it was voted back to power in the next assembly elections.

”We will bring a Lokayukta Act for which the system should be effective,” TDP senior leader K Yerran Naidu told reporters at a press conference after a politburo meeting chaired by its President N Chandrababu Naidu here.

He said the TDP demanded the Manmohan Singh government at the Centre to bring an effective Lokpal bill in the country and added the UPA government should take steps for introducing it in the ensuing budget session of Parliament.

The CBI should not be a tool in the hands of the Centre and should be brought under the purview of the Lokpal, the former TDP Parliamentary leader in the Lok Sabha said.

He said the CBI should be given an autonomous status as the Prime Minister was directly making appointments of top officials in the investigating agency till now.
