Violent clash in Vedvyas, prohibitory order clamped

Rourkela, January 19: The authority has clamped prohibitory orders under section 144CrPc Act after a violent clash between the unruly mob and police yesterday over death of a helper in an accident left at least 30 people injured and several vehicles damaged.

Superintendent of Police Diptesh Pattnaik said 40 people were arrested in connection with the violence and 15 platoon police force had been deployed in the trouble-torn area under Brahmanitarang police station to prevent any further law and order problem.

The situation, the SP claimed, was now under control.

Thousands of people last evening blocked the National Highway 23, attacked several vehicles and pelted stones at the police at vadvyas following the death of the person in the accident.

The mob, police said, went on a rampage spree and damaged at least nine heavy vehicles and 20 two wheelers.

At least 10 policemen were injured in stone pelting, while 20 civilians when police resorted to lathi charge to chase the agitating mob.
