Mumbai, November 02: Top seed Vidit Gujrathi began his campaign with a victory in the national sub-junior Chess Championship which commenced here today.
The Nashik-based Gujrathi, who recently secured his GM norm at St. Petersburg, Russia and has an international rating of 2,459, defeated Sri Sai Saran.
Top-seed in the girls’ section Shalmali Gagare too began her campaign on a winning note, defeating Shalon Joanne Pais.
A total of 215 boys, with 148 FIDE rated players, and 102 girls, with 66 FIDE rated players, have participated in the event.
