Gangtok, October 29: Describing Right to Education Act as historic, Vice-President Hamid Ansari today urged the government to ensure that students acquired skills commensurate with their schooling with access to vocational and technical skills.
“It has taken us six decades since Independence to provide the right to every child in the age-group of 6 to 14 years a free and compulsory primary education in the schools in their neighbourhood,” he said.
“The Act passed by the Parliament last month empowers our citizens to demand education in order to development ones potential to the fullest,” Ansari said.
Hinting at making educational institutions accountable for qualitative improvement in the lives of the people, he questioned whether children acquired skills commensurate with their schooling and access to vocational and technical skills, social and life skills at the time of leaving school.
