Universal donor appeals to all

Hyderabad, June 14: On March 30, Yogesh Srivastava, a medical shop owner received a call from a nervous husband whose wife after a cardiac arrest urgently needed six units of blood for an open heart surgery.

Yogesh, who was in the midst of his work rushed taking three of his friends to the hospital to donate blood. This was the 91st time in 25 years that he donated blood and saved another life. He hopes to soon reach the milestone of donating blood for the 100th time.

This 45-year-old, also a social worker associated with Red Cross, appealed to the youth to come forward and donate blood on the occasion of `World Blood Donors Day’ on Sunday.

A universal donor with O+ve blood group, Srivastava, a resident of Tilaknagar, has also been maintaining a donors list whose number has reached 7,224 mark till date.

Srivastava, has also registered his name in the donors list of all the major government and corporate hospitals and reaches to the hospital within half an hour of receiving a call.

Srivasatava said he first donated blood when he was only 20 years old.

“If at least one per cent of the population donates blood, the entire requirement of the state will be met,” Srivastava said.
