Pune, September 05: The United Nations has shown keen interest in the ‘Mahatma Gandhi Dispute Free Village Mission’ (MGDFVM) to bring peace in the world, said Pune District Superintendent of Police Pratap Dighavkar.
Mr Dighavkar, who shared his experiences about his visit to the UN for a paper presentation on the MGDFVM recently, said the UN is of the view that the dreams of great leaders about bringing peace in the world can be fulfilled through this project by making the country dispute free.
He said after the implementation of MGDFVM in Pune and Raigad districts, there has been a decrease in the crime in rural areas. As many as 2,000 cases have been disposed off by the mobile court.
He informed that the committee, which consists of 28 members, including local representatives, has been a great help in this project.
He was speaking in an interactive session organised by the Pune Working Journalist Association at the Patrakar Bhavan here yesterday.
Speaking on the issue of non-cognizable cases, he said police should immediately act on the complaints of eve teasing, abuse and
small disputes.
”We have set up a special team to monitor such events and resister the complaint. This system has reduced the number of riots and other crimes,” he said. He added that since it takes no time for small issues to turn big, therefore they should be tackled immediately, especially cases regarding women and children.
