Karachi, October 03: ICC’s Umpire of Year Aleem Dar feels the standard of umpiring in international cricket can improve by leaps and bounds if officials use technology more often while deciding on close dismissals.
Dar beat off competition from fellow countryman Asad Rauf and Australians Simon Taufel and Tony Hill, to win the award on Friday night in Johannesburg.
“I think technology can be used to make the umpire’s job easier. There will always be mistakes from umpires because we are humans. I believe using technology can only help us cut down the errors,” Dar said.
The 41-year old from Lahore said he has never hesitated to use technology available to umpires in international cricket.
“I don’t believe that technology can ever replace the skills of the umpire but if it can be used for betterment why not?” he added.
