New Delhi, November 02: Insisting that she was not involved in bringing down Babri Masjid, expelled BJP leader Uma Bharti, a prime accused in the case today said she is ready to face any consequence in wake of submission of the Liberhan Commission report to the Prime Minister.
Defending herself, Bharti said she had merely led an agitation to Ayodhya to muster support for construction of Ram Temple.
“There were about 2.5 lakh activists on that day and they could not listen to anyone before they stormed the structure,” Bharti, chief of Bharatiya Janshakti party, said while addressing a rally on Women’s Reservation Bill.
Bharti said the then Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao also showed “inaction” in preventing the structure from being demolished.
“Narasimha Rao could have ordered the force stationed only about 15 minutes away in Faizabad to stop the structure from being demolished. But, he could not dare to order firing on the 2.5 lakh activists,” she said.
Reacting to criticism that she failed to stop the activists, Bharti said “why did not Sonia Gandhi stop the riots of 1984 when her husband (Rajiv Gandhi) was Prime Minister.”
However, she said she was ready to face any responsibility if found guilty.
