The State Human Rights Commission on Tuesday directed that the Khammam district police superintendent submit a report on the alleged sexual harassment of two girl students of a government school. The two girls and their parents approached the SHRC after the local police sub-inspector and the school headmaster allegedly failed to act on their complaint. They said even the district collector and the district educational officer took their complaint lightly.According to the complaint lodged with the SHRC, the girls were sexually harassed every night by the son of the school watchman in Chintakani mandal. The watchman’s son, Sk Majeed, allegedly beat them up when they refused to give in to his demands. They said the watchman’s wife threatened them with removal from the school if they disclosed the matter to others. The hostel warden is said to have starved the girls for two days and the SI threatened to book them if they persisted in wanting their complaint filed. The girls and their parents decided to approach the SHRC here when all avenues were closed.“He visits the hostel every night drunk. He would wake us up and sexually harass us and threaten that he will sell us in Dubai if we disclosed it to anybody,” the girls alleged in their petition.Unable to bear the sexual harassment, the girls fled to a nearby village to stay with their relatives. “We went to the SI to lodge a complaint, but he threatened to book us,’’ they said. “What happened He just fell on you. He didn’t rape you, na” the girls quoted the SI as saying. The girls urged the commission to take action against the SI and the watchman’s son besides providing them security.
